Real Journeys is holding an exclusive black tie charity ball at Walter Peak on Saturday 1 August, to support New Zealand’s ‘parrot of the night’ – the critically endangered Kakapo.
There are fewer than 150 of these large flightless parrots remaining in the world and it’s hoped the evening will raise at least $20,000 for the Department of Conservation’s Kakapo Recovery programme.
“Our involvement bringing the Kakapo to Arrowtown last year made us want to do more – they are such incredibly unique and endearing characters. We have a fantastic venue at Walter Peak for an event like this. I think it will just add some magic to the night,” says Richard Lauder, Real Journeys Chief Executive.
Tickets are $195 per person and include a welcome drink and canapés on the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw, followed by a three course dinner at the Colonel’s Homestead, Walter Peak. Head Chef, Justin Koen and his team will be creating something quite different to the usual gourmet barbecue menu. Dancing will be to live music from Queenstown band LA Social.
Kakapo is a Maori word that means ‘parrot of the night’ and the dress code for the evening is feathers and black tie. A special guest will make an appearance. Half the ticket price and all other proceeds raised on the night will be donated to the Kakapo Recovery.
