Prince Harry and his entourage chose a small but upmarket bed and breakfast with stunning sea views for his private stay in Stewart Island, on the second day of his New Zealand tour.
Owned by Real Journeys, the six-bedroom lodge, is surrounded by native bush and just a short walk from the centre of Oban, the village on the island. Prince Harry took full advantage of this - walking to all his appointments.
The Prince remarked on the view and took a photo of the sunrise from the balcony which was posted on Instagram @KensingtonRoyal https://instagram.com/p/2g-j2_KZO1/ . He also enjoyed a close encounter with a Kaka, a large, forest-dwelling native NZ parrot, one of many native birds that can be spotted from the lodge.
Host Lisa Benson believes the Stewart Island Lodge was chosen because it is very much like a home.
“The place has that invitation about it to fully be who you are. I think guests feel like they can ‘own’ it.”
Lisa says hosting her famous guest was an honour. “He’s absolutely Prince Charming - really delightful, open, generous and playful in his relationships with his entourage and those around him”.
Anyone wanting to follow in the footsteps of Prince Harry will need to be quick – the lodge is closed for the winter months of June, July and August but is available on an exclusive hire basis during that time.
