Real Journeys and Cardrona Alpine Resort Chief Executive, Richard Lauder is looking forward to representing Queenstown and the lower South Island after being co-opted to the Tourism Industry Association Board (see attached TIA media release and quote below). The TIA board is able to co-opt up to two members for their particular skills or to boost the representation of certain sectors or geographical areas.
“After a few years in the tourism business I feel it’s time to step up and take a leadership role in the industry. TIA best represents the sector we’re in and I’m looking forward to making a contribution towards the future success of tourism,” says Richard.
Richard joins Christchurch Airport CEO Malcolm Johns as the only representatives of the South Island and will work with other industry leaders on the board. Richard will attend quarterly meetings and will be able to influence the direction of the tourism industry at a national level.
“We are very pleased that Richard has accepted the offer and will join us from TIA's next board meeting,” Board Chairman, Grant Lilly says. “Real Journeys is a successful and important operator in the South and Richard offers the board direct representation from Queenstown. His appointment further strengthens the wide representation we have on the TIA board.”
Richard Lauder has been chief executive of Real Journeys since April 2012 and became chief executive of Cardrona Alpine Resort when Real Journeys acquired it in November 2013. Richard has previously held chief executive positions for over twenty years in five successful companies in manufacturing, infrastructure contracting and aviation. He has held a number of directorships in company and industry organisations.
