Oneke, or “The Neck,” is the tūrakawaewae of Rakiura Māori a place to stand, belong, and connect. This remote headland sits between Paterson Inlet and Foveaux Strait and is accessed by boat to a dedicated coastal wharf. Rich in history and culture, Oneke has been home to early Māori settlement and remains central to Rakiura Māori identity, shaped by whānau and shared whakapapa.
Choose a guided wilderness walk across coastal and bush trails, where your guide shares the layered history of Oneke, including Māori and European stories, traditional plant use, and ongoing conservation through kaitiakitanga. Guests experience native flora and wildlife, and a formal whakatau (Māori welcome) marks the start of the journey, acknowledging the land and people. A short return sea cruise to the coastal wharf is included. Departures are seasonal and weather dependent, with small-group hosting and time to slow down and fully connect with the land and its stories.
